■ Shostakovich Masterpieces UHQCD - 20 Titles
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, we have selected 20 of Shostakovich's masterpieces from Deutsche Grammophon and Decca recordings and released them in UHQCD format.
Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 is the only symphony of his that Karajan recorded. He recorded it twice. This controversial work, which some see as a celebration of his own artistic liberation following the collapse of the Stalinist regime, was performed in front of Shostakovich in Moscow in 1969. There's a famous anecdote about the two standing side by side on the stage after the performance.
